Russian Films

This series of documentaries was filmed by internationally-acclaimed filmmaker Slawomir Grunberg in partnership with Slava Paperno. Designed for use in Russian language and culture courses, they received the "best of the year" award from AATSEEL. These films provoke discussion in class by letting real people in unusual situations tell their stories. They're also high-impact films in their own right.

We also have one feature film, 12 Chairs, edited for language learners.

The films are available on DVD, tape (American and European formats) and/or CD-ROM for Windows and Macintosh.

Life on the Atomic River (60 min, DVD, tape, CD) Three nuclear accidents and half a century of indifferent waste dumping  have made life on the river toxic for these villagers.
	Adopting Olya (30 min, DVD or tape) Four-year-old Olya lives in a Chelyabinsk orphanage. Sam and Meredith live in California. Find out how they become a family. From Chechnya to Chernobyl (45 min, tape) Irradiated villages near Chernobyl are being resettled by desperate refugees from war-torn Chechnya. Radiation, they tells us, is less frightening than bullets.
